Hello, again and it’s a Wednesday which is nice to talk about the health benefits of atis.
Atis is a fruit from Annona squamosa which you can also call the fruit as sugar-apple, sweetsop, custard apple, srikaya, and shareefa.
This is my list of the health benefits of atis.
1. Atis Helps With Eye Health
When you think of food for your eyes, you usually think of carrots.
But if atis is available to you, you should also consider eating this fruit.
It is not only a good source of vitamin A, other nutrients like vitamin B2 and vitamin C are also present in atis which are good for keeping your eyes healthy.
2. Improves Your Body’s Energy
Atis contains different B-vitamins.
These vitamins help in your body’s metabolism or energy production.
It is also good to mention that atis is also a source of iron which can prevent fatigue or getting tired as well as anemia.
3. Atis Helps Detoxify Your Body
A good barometer of food that’s good in detoxifying your body is that it contains antioxidants and is high in fiber.
And as you may have already read or known, atis is both a source of nutrients that act as antioxidants and is high in fiber.
4. Is Filled With Nutrients
For starters, atis is a delicious fruit that can give you different vitamins and minerals.
Some of the vitamins you get from atis are vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B9, and vitamin C.
It also contains different minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc.
5. Atis Helps Treat Wounds
The leaves of atis are traditionally used to treat minor cuts and wounds.
You can just grind or crush that leaves to make a paste out of it and apply topically to the affected part.
It can also be used to treat insect bites and stings.
6. Helps Keep Your Bones Healthy
Your bones and teeth will also benefit from eating atis.
Atis is both a source of calcium and magnesium which are essential in the development and strengthening of your bones and teeth.
7. Atis May Help Treat Toothaches
Atis is also traditionally used for treating toothaches.
They grind the rinds of the plant and mix it with water. Use it to gargle to relieve some pain from your toothache.
8. Helps With Respiratory Health
Atis is rich in vitamin C that can act as an antioxidant and is a source of vitamin B6.
Antioxidants and vitamin B6 have anti-inflammatory effects that can help in reducing the risk of asthma attacks and bronchial infections.
Do you know of Tagulinaw? It’s a flowering plant that you can consume to help improve your respiratory health too.
To know more about this, I’ve written an article about the health benefits of tagulinaw here.
9. Atis Helps Calm Your Nerves
Because of the presence of magnesium in atis, consuming the fruit can help with your neural functions.
An effect of this is that it can manage your mood and calm your nerves.
In a similar effect, it can also reduce stress.
10. Improves Your Cholesterol Levels
As mentioned earlier, atis is a good source of vitamin Bs.
In particular, you can get Niacin or vitamin B3.
Vitamin B3 has been seen to contribute to lowering bad cholesterol levels while at the same time increasing good cholesterol levels.
11. Atis May Help With Weight Loss
Atis does have 2 abilities that can help you reduce some weight.
First, it is high in fiber that can help with your digestion as well as making you feel full faster.
Second, it has nutrients like vitamin Bs which can improve your body’s metabolism which burns energy, including your fats.
12. May Help Lower The Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes
Atis is considered to be a good source of fiber.
Fiber has been seen to slow down the absorption of sugar in your body.
Thus, it can be said that a high-fiber diet may be able to help you in reducing your chances of developing type 2 diabetes.
13. Atis Boosts Your Immune System
Vitamin C is an important nutrient in keeping your immune system functioning properly.
And as mentioned many times now, atis is a really good source of vitamin C.
Having a good functioning immune system can reduce your risk of getting different illnesses like colds and flu. It also makes your body heal faster from these illnesses.
14. Is Good For Your Skin Health And Hair Health
Atis is a fruit that can help you in keeping your hair and skin beautiful and healthy.
It is a good source of both vitamin A and vitamin C.
These vitamins can act as antioxidants which can help fight oxidative stress that can cause damage to your cells.
This means that it can delay the aging of your skin like the formation of wrinkles.
It also aids in the production of collagen which is related to your skin’s flexibility and texture.
To add more in keeping your skin healthy, atis can be used to treat acne and pimples.
15. Atis Helps Keep Your Heart Healthy
Because of the abundance of vitamin Bs in atis, it is said that this fruit is heart-friendly.
B-vitamins are linked to converting homocysteine into methionine or cysteine.
A high level of homocysteine in your blood can lead to inflammation of your blood vessels. This can ultimately result in blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes.
To add more, atis is also a source of magnesium.
Magnesium is able to reduce the stress in your blood vessels.
To wrap up how it’s good for your heart, atis has effects that add up to keeping your heart healthy like it can improve cholesterol levels and reduce blood pressure levels.
16. Helps With Digestive Health
Atis is a good source of fiber.
And as we know it, fiber is really good for our digestion.
A fiber-rich diet can help prevent digestive disorders like constipation, diarrhea, and irregular bowel syndrome.
17. Atis Helps Lower Blood Pressure
Atis is also a source of potassium.
Potassium is a particular mineral that can help in regulating your blood pressure.
It is able to control the effects of sodium in your body.
18. May Help With Arthritis And Rheumatism
There have been studies that link arthritis attacks with an imbalance in your body’s pH levels.
Atis has the ability to help balance this by eliminating or removing acids from your body.
Atis’ magnesium content also adds electrolytes to your body.
Conclusion
These are a lot of health benefits of atis.
I’m very familiar with this because we used to have an atis tree at our old home.
We eat as much as we can when it is in season.
My choice for in the list of health benefits of atis is its ability to be helpful in dealing with arthritis or rheumatism.
Although the reason seems quite different, I’ve read a few times about how our bodies can react when the pH levels are abnormal. And I think it may have mentioned something about arthritis as well.
What is the health benefit of atis do you think will you need the most?
I think that atis is a relatively safe fruit to eat but you should first talk with your doctor or health professional if you’re considering it for your health.
Please share this article with someone you know who can find value in this. Thank you!
Stay safe everyone. Think about not only the health of ourselves but as well the health of others.
